Let’s Talk:

This has to be one of the most anticipated comebacks of the year. GOT7 is a seven member band (Members: JB, Mark, Jackson, Jinyoung, Youngjae, BamBam, Yugyeom) they are one of the most talented, beloved k-pop boy bands and with good reason. They have this friendly bond with their fandom – IGOT7/Ahgases as they lovingly call them. Each and every member is impressive in their own way and what’s more is that they are independent in their own way, with almost all the members having their own individual side projects going on as well.

But let’s talk about their latest album titled ‘Call My Name.’

Right off the bat, the title track itself is fiery and such a bop! You Calling My Name has to be one of the best tracks on the album. The song thoroughly dazzled me – it is a perfectly arranged track what with its synth-pop, sultry RnB vibe – the song perfectly displays a yearning for a former lover, almost begging them to give a second chance. The rap line really stood out on this one, BamBam, Jackson and Mark’s fervid raps have such an enthralling effect that it gives the song a certain edge. The music video is a visual treat with its sophisticated, sleek look with each member dressed in muted colours to match the set and what’s more, the choreography is in sync making it the perfect comeback MV!

PRAY is that song on the album that has profound lyrics about wanting the person you hold dear to always have your back but it seems like there is something missing on this track. However the vocals by both the lead vocalists as well as the rappers are simply phenomenal, Jackson’s husky voice especially stands out the most on this track.

Ah! Now or Never. This song has a peppy tune to it with lyrics talking about seizing the moment with the love of your life. The track features Jonas Blue on its arrangement giving the love song its breezy vibe. The song is brilliantly executed, however (in my humble opinion) I feel a rap verse would’ve given the song a bit of a dimension to it.

One of the songs that stand out in the album is THURSDAY. This song is so fresh and fun. I love how the song talks about a budding relationship and its challenges. The song portrays the members asking their love interests to become more comfortable in the relationship as right now they seem to still have a distance as the lyrics suggest that it’s not like the relationship is nothing but it’s like the time between a weekday and the weekend and that between Mon, Tue, Wed, Thurs, Fri, Sat, Sun, they’re Thursday but now they want to get past that and get to the weekend and make it about each other, getting to know each other better.

The vocal line really shines on this one – RUN AWAY is such a perfectly balanced, peppy yet simple track about wanting to run away and spending time with your lover. The song has an uplifting vibe. While the rap line is flawless as ever, the vocal line will enrapture you – Yugyeom, JB, Jinyoung and Youngjae are sure to sweep you off your feet! The way their voices synchronise is just so smooth and will keep you coming back for more.

Last, but not the least, Crash & Burn is smashing and lit (pun intended)! The energy of this track is aggressively powerful. The song is a bit dark in nature compared to the other tracks on this album as it talks about fatal love and how though they know this love is doomed they’re at a point that they can’t stop till they crash & burn. It is definitely an edgy track with its hard hitting percussion and melody.

All in all, GOT7 definitely hit the mark with this album – Call My Name and it is definitely worth giving it a listen!

My Rating : 8.5/10
