BTS Delivers A Message Of Comfort With Their Compelling Tunes In “BE”

BTS Delivers A Message Of Comfort With Their Compelling Tunes In “BE”

BTS unveiled their latest album BE and it is BEguiling, to say the least!

BTS is back and with a spectacular new album that serves as an introspection into the complicated emotions of anxiety, helplessness due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, through BE, BTS aims to bring forth an uplifting message that despite difficult times, “we must overcome.”

In the album, the septet talks about their honest feelings and thoughts of living in 2020, and furthermore, the existence of “we” who must continue living looking towards the future. This is the reason why the word “BE”, which means “it is” or “exists”, was chosen as the title of the album.

First Impressions

BTS’ BE consists of eight tracks in total including the chart-topping number “Dynamite”. It further features the title track “Life Goes On”, “Fly To My Room”, “Blue & Grey”, “Skit”, “Telepathy”, “Dis-ease” and “Stay”.

Life Goes On

BTS opens their awe-inspiring album on an equally inspiring track “Life Go’s On”. The song belongs to the alternative hip-hop genre of music that is characterized by an emotional acoustic guitar tune. The melody makes for quite the evocative listening experience as it perfectly captures the sentimentality of the lyricism that is delivered through the members’ soft and sonorous vocals.

The message of the song is heartening especially keeping in mind the current situation around the globe due to the COVID-19 pandemic. BTS expresses emotions of consolation with sincere, straight-from-the-heart lyrics such as,

Like an echo in the forest
The day will come
As if nothing had happened
Yeah life goes on
Like an arrow in the blue sky
We’re flying another day
On my pillow, on my table
Yeah life goes on
Like this again

BTS truly soothe with their stirring vocals on “Life Goes On” which, just like its overall musical style, brings with it a sense of tranquility.

Fly To My Room

The track is intriguing to state the least as it features BTS’ sub-unit that consists of members Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, and V. “Fly To My Room” boasts of a funky, laidback beat that perfectly complements Jimin and V’s dulcet voices.

The addition of the snares towards the second half of the track backing Suga and J-Hope’s refreshing rap verses makes for a groovy listening experience. The track is relatable in more ways than one as it talks about the frustration one feels due to the stay-at-home orders and quarantine experience. However, it also reveals that it’s not all bad as they aver in the track, “Sometimes we get to know, Broken is beautiful”.

Blue & Grey

Right off the bat, it’s safe to state that “Blue & Grey” is one of the most perceptive tracks of the album. The lilting guitar melody is one that is sure to evoke a nostalgic vibe which only is furthered by its emotional lyricism. The pop-ballad track is an expression of the emotional, physical, and mental exhaustion one feels sometimes.

In A V Live, member V had explained that the color blue represents the emotion of well, feeling blue. The grey is the color that RM often refers to in songs he writes, so it was an inspiration for V to use them both to describe that feeling.

To say that the members sound like an absolute dream on this stunning track would truly be an understatement. V stuns with his soft husky tones while Jungkook delights with his falsetto laced breathy tones. Suga, J-Hope, and RM add a sense of delicacy with their breathy rap verses. Jin and Jimin stir with their angelic vocals which they harmonize in the most flawless way.

It is truly refreshing to see the inclusion of a skit from BTS after their album LOVE YOURSELF 承 ‘HER’ that featured “Skit: Billboard Music Awards Speech”. In this latest release, the group revealed yet another piece that shared a record of the conversations that the members had when they first topped the Billboard Hot 100 with their song “Dynamite”.

“Telepathy” is a funky dance track that features a snazzy retro-pop beat. BTS shines on this track as it displays their faultless synergy in the most dynamic way.  The song is an endearing expression of love and of letting someone know how much they mean to you as seen in lines such as, ”

Even though we’re far away now
Our hearts are still the same
Even if you’re not by my side, yeah
Even if I’m not by your side, yeah
You know we’re together

The track has a very light-hearted feel, which is where its charm lies. “Telepathy” is definitely a track that will keep listeners hitting that repeat button and coming back for more.

This track is sure to take fans down memory lane thanks to its old-school hip-hop style. “Dis-ease” talks about the uncertainty one feels especially because of the ongoing situation around the globe.

This spectacular little number spotlights the crisp rap verses by J-Hope, Suga, and RM who stun with their ad-libs and wordplay in the song. The vocal line V, Jungkook, Jin, and Jimin, spellbind with their layered vocals that harmonize in the most dazzling way.

This track is certainly one that impresses with its power-packed and energetic musical style!

This delectable electro-pop track features the sub-unit consisting of members Jungkook, Jin, and RM. It cannot be emphasized enough how beautiful Jin and Jungkook sound on “Stay” and add to it RM’s strong rap verses and you’ve got a stunner of a track!

Jin and Jungkook layer their vocals in the most mellifluous manner and showcase their musical prowess delving into those breathy notes, fluid falsetto, and subtle high notes. RM mesmerizes with his sing-rap style that adds a lovely texture to the melody, to say the least.

Through this track, the unit expresses feelings of missing their beloved ARMY after they are not able to see them anymore during live performances because of the pandemic. “Stay” is, without a doubt, an absolute banger that exudes quite the zestful vibe, especially because of its riveting EDM rhythm.

“Dynamite” is a hearty track that does not weigh heavy with seriousness. The song is what can be described as a ray of sun on a gloomy day and the perfect pick me up as BTS bring to ARMY a world where life is indeed all sunshine and rainbows!

Talking about the track, RM had said, “As soon as we heard it, we thought it was really fun and exciting, a fun and cheery song that wasn’t that serious. It just made us feel good when we heard it and so we really wanted to share this energy with the fans as soon as possible.”

And BTS does exactly that and how! Both the track and the video serve as a breakthrough or a window to escape from the trying times the world is going through right now. It gives a sense of comfort with its cheery disco-inspired dynamics which detonate with delight.

Overall, there is no question that BTS truly reiterate why they are indeed the Kings of K-Pop with BE.

Music Video Musings

Even in the face of this new normality, our life goes on and imparts a message of healing to fans and to the world.

Bringing this quote’s very tenor to life, BTS unveiled their heartwarming music video for the lead track of their album, “Life Goes On”.

The music video showcases the members adapting to the new normal and reflects how the world has become today. With RM cleaning the dust off his cycle, Jungkook looking out of the window and V passing by a stadium and longingly looking at it, and the deep lyrics and soft music, shows how everyday activities have taken a pause in this year.

The lyrics and the scenes are something that every ARMY can relate to, especially as the members are also seen hanging out at home in loungewear and pajamas like most of us this year. Towards the end, the septet is seen in a monochrome theme performing to an empty stadium. The bitter-sweet moment reflects the sentiments of BTS who are eager to meet their fans and they pay homage to their ARMY with the ARMY Bombs which fill up the empty seats.

With this, they end on a hopeful note about the future and also give comfort with their words that life goes on no matter what, and no matter how the world changes, the bond between BTS and ARMY will never change. The music video and the song personify the words comfort and hope which is much needed as the year nears its end but is still plagued with much uncertainty.
