BTS’ J-HOPE SPOTLIGHTS HIS EVER-EVOLVING MUSICALITY IN HIS LATEST PRE-RELEASE SINGLE TITLED “MORE” FROM HIS HIGHLY ANTICIPATED SOLO ALBUM JACK IN THE BOX!
BTS’ J-Hope is back with a brand new tune that is bound to leave every listener awestruck. Gone are the bright colors and the vibrant style that were seen in the rapper’s previous solo release Hope World as the all-round artist showcases a different and a rather bold charm through his new release.
“MORE” is a grunge rock meets old-school hip-hop song from the BTS member’s upcoming album Jack In The Box which is slated to release on July 15. The track is an undeniable testament to J-Hope’s rich artistry which stands out with its witty lyricism that is further emphasized by his unique rhythmic flow.
To amplify the moody vibe of the track, the talented idol dropped a music video that underlined his intense and dynamic style. Commencing on an enigmatic note, the clip begins with the musician being handed a mysterious box which, upon opening, leads to him cruising through various settings.
Wearing monochromatic ensembles paired with smoky makeup and multiple props to bring the pierrot motif to life, J-Hope navigates through different rooms where he sings of his passion and aspirations.
Additionally, the box serves as an expression of J-Hope’s inner worldview. The track’s visual narration sees him seemingly embarking on a quest for answers that ultimately concludes with the rapper looking into the miniature versions of the sets inside the box as he closes it, indicating whatever it is that he is seeking isn’t something that can be found inside a box.
Furthermore, it also lays emphasis on the idea that J-Hope is the Jack in the Box all along with an aim to bring forth a ‘box’ full of surprises that are emblematic of his own authentic style. This theme is also one that the artist aims to explore through his forthcoming solo album.
With Jack In The Box, he aspires to reveal stories that mirror his own self, explaining, “I wanted to look back on things, like how I’ve lived and the kind of emotional shadow my hidden side casts. You’ll understand when these songs come out later, but if I was going to discuss these things, I couldn’t always be light about it. That’s why I edged a little closer to a darker place, which I think allowed me to open up about my life story completely”.
Overall, it isn’t an overstatement that “MORE” is perhaps quite an accurate elucidation of the title of the album Jack In The Box. Just as the toy surprises people with a pierrot popping out of a box when its knob is turned, BTS’ sunshine J-Hope takes on a dark and somewhat edgy avatar with this track where he surprises everyone with his out-of-the-box musicality, successfully breaking the mold.
