Kakao Entertainment has chosen the sweet songstress IU as a brand model for the new global webtoon platform, Kakao Webtoon. This unique collaboration is officially slated to launch in South Korea in August.
The company will aim to release various different promotional contents on YouTube and television broadcast channels. The activities for the same will commence on July 27. Speaking about the forthcoming release, an official from Kakao Entertainment said, “Kakao Webtoon and IU are very similar in that they are adventurous icons that are not afraid of unfamiliar challenges. We expect to see a great synergy from the collaboration between Kakao Webtoon and IU, both who receive a lot of love globally”.
The “Celebrity” crooner opened about the collaboration as well. IU said, “I finished filming for a special concept and I was very happy with it as I will be able to show you a different side of myself that I have never shown before. Please look forward to my collaboration with Kakao Webtoon, a platform that is not only receiving nationwide love but also global attention.”
Kakao Webtoon, which will be released for the first time in Korea next month, is touted to be an ambitious work of Kakao Entertainment that combines the industry’s best UX/UI technology with the best IPs in Korea including Kakao Page and Daum Webtoon.
The teaser video for each work containing the worldview of the webtoon characters is realized as if they have come to life in the app. This feature among others is enough to catch the attention of webtoon fans around the world. Moreover, soon after its launch in Thailand and Taiwan at the beginning of last month, Kakao Webtoon ranked first in the comics section in the local app markets as well as garnered favorable reviews.
