Winners Of The 35th Golden Disc Awards Day 1 : IU, BTS, MONSTA X & More

Congratulations to all of the winners from day 1 of the 35th Golden Disc Awards!

The 35th Golden Disc Awards unveiled the first day of its annual two-day ceremony to commemorate some of the musical masterpieces from 2020. The event that was held today on January 9 included the Digital Song Division, while the Album Division will be held tomorrow on January 10.

The Day 1 of the award ceremony was hosted by Lee Seung Gi and Park So Dam. The stellar songstress IU won the Grand Prize (Digital Daesang) at the Golden Disc Awards for the first time in three years, as well as a Digital Bonsang.

The prestigious award was presented to IU by none other than the much-loved actor Lee Min Ho. Upon receiving the award, IU said, “It is an honor to receive the Daesang at the Golden Disc Awards for the first time in three years”.

She added, “Thank you so much to the Edam Entertainment family. Thank you to the band team and the dancer team for preparing a great stage today”.

IU further revealed a piece of exciting news. She said, “I’m going to release a new album, too. I think it will come out as a full-length album. The awe-inspiring artist averred that she would be possibly giving a glimpse of the same with a cheerful and energetic track that she will reveal in January and said that, “I will not waste any time to be a singer my beloved UAENA can be proud of”.

IU also took home the Digital Song Division Bonsang that was also awarded to nine other multitalented artists including BLACKPINK, Hwasa, ITZY, Red Velvet, Oh My Girl, Zico, Noel, MAMAMOO, and BTS.

Besides this, the Next Generation Award was won by LOONA and THE BOYZ, both groups who expressed their gratitude for the same with elan. The Golden Choice Award went to NU’EST. Member JR said, “2020 has passed and 2021 is here, and it seems that we have received a meaningful award because there are people who generously love even in difficult times. Thank you”.

Minhyun mentioned member Aaron, who has taken a hiatus due to having experienced anxiety symptoms, and said, “Today we have 4 people on the stage, but Aaron hyung, who will be watching at home, will quickly become healthy, and we will work hard so that 5 members can show you more great looks”.

Changmo, who won the award for Best R&B/Hip Hop, said, “I can’t believe I’m in a place like this. I’m really grateful, and I want to say thank you to myself for making this album.”

Im Young Woong won the Best Trot Award, said, “I can’t believe I won the award at the Golden Disk Awards,” but added, “I think this award is not just for me, but for all of ‘ Mr. Trot’ who played many good songs for me in 2020”.

The ‘love killas’ not only dazzled on the stage like the true kings they are but also took their crown, as MONSTA X won the award for the Best Group. The supergroup stated, “We will try to be a group worthy of our name as we have received such a big award,” adding, “We would like to thank the six parents who gave birth to us. It’s an honor to receive the Best Group Award, but we think it’s the best fan award that MONBEBE should receive. We really appreciate it and we love you”.

The winner of the Trend of the Year award was none other than the “Any Song” crooner Zico. The singer/rapper, who is currently serving in the military, was honored with the crown and expressed his gratitude through video.

Jesse, who took home the award for the Best Solo Artist expressed, “I dreamed of being a best solo artist for a long time. It took me 15 years, but I’m really grateful. I’m grateful for the love you showed to “NUNU NANA”.

It comes as no surprise that the award for the Best Ballad went to none other than the ballad prince Lee Seung Gi himself! The sweet soloist said, “Thank you very much. It’s been 4 years and 8 months, but I think the feeling was much longer. While preparing for this album, I was worried about what kind of evaluation I would get when I stood in front of you all as a singer again, and I’d like to thank everyone for loving and welcoming me and I want to thank the fans who are the reason for my strong existence”.

Through this celebration of music, the artists who set the stage alight with their bedazzling presence and brilliant performances were Changmo, Park Ji Chan, MONSTA X, LOONA, The Boyz, ITZY, MAMAMOO (with another set of individual performance from Hwasa), Noel, Im Young Woong, Jessi, Lee Seung Gi, IU, NU’EST, and OH MY GIRL.

Meanwhile, more winners of the 35th Golden Disc Awards will be announced on its second day tomorrow, January 10. The ceremony will begin at 3:50 PM KST and will be hosted by Lee Da Hee and Sung Si Kyung.
